PROGRAMS OF STUDY

NMCC offers 30+ degree and certificate programs  designed to enable you to enter the work force with technically-current skills and to prepare you for lifelong learning and career advancement opportunities.  More than 90% of our graduates are employed within six months of their graduation in jobs related to their training or are continuing their education.  An associate’s degree will allow you to enter your chosen job market with confidence or to continue your education.  Please explore the variety of programs offered at NM.

NMCC provides programs which prepare graduates to be employed in a variety of settings.  Career Studies allow students that are  working toward a particular degree the ability to enroll and begin completing their general education studies.

A quality general education enables you to think critically, communicate effectively, compute accurately and adapt to change appropriately. Arts and Sciences courses are designed to complement specific technical skills and to broaden your educational background.  The department emphasizes the importance of lifelong learning and the significance of strong ethical and professional values.

Business Technology Department
Programs in this department promote occupational competence, individual growth and social responsibility in students preparing for careers in accounting, business administration and as an office assistant.  In addition, the students’ preparation allows for upward academic mobility when they wish to transfer credit to a number of four-year colleges and universities.  Classroom lectures and laboratory experiences are designed to help students put into practice the facts, principles and theories that are necessary for success in their specialized field of study.  Faculty maintain expertise in their specialized fields through a variety of activities including involvement in professional organizations, attendance at workshops and seminars and working in their respective field of study.

Because the department is nationally accredited by the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) for the offering of its business programs, graduates are some of the most sought after in the state’s job market; employers have come to expect NMCC students and graduates to be well-prepared and technologically current. Emergency Medical Services
The Emergency Medical Services Department programs are designed to meet the needs for well trained EMTs and paramedics. The programs follow the National Emergency Medical Services Education Standards for Paramedic Education and meets or exceeds the national standards for minimum clinical, didactic, lab and field externship hours and competencies.

Nursing and Allied Health Department
The Nursing and Allied Health Department provides programs which prepare graduates to be employed in a variety of health care settings as competent health care providers.  The programs are supported by general education studies and a number of required courses supplement the occupational areas of study.  Students are expected to combine theory and didactic classroom content with practical application in both laboratory and clinical settings.  Graduates are able to secure employment in a variety of clinical settings and/or transfer to baccalaureate levels of education in their areas of major.

Trade and Technical Occupations Department
The Trade and Technical Occupations Department offers a wide range of training programs.  These programs are grouped into three major cluster areas.  Transportation trades include Automotive Collision Repair, Automotive Technology and Diesel Hydraulics Technology.  Electrical/electronics include Computer & Network Technology, Electrical Construction and Maintenance and Wind Power Technology.  The building and manufacturing trades cluster consists of Engineering Design Technology, Electrical Construction & Maintenance, Plumbing & Heating, Building Construction Technology, Welding & Metal Fabrication, Precision Machining Technology and Structural Welding.

Each program requires a broad-based education centered on a core curriculum including technical specialty and general education courses.  Most programs offer training at the certificate and associate degree level.  Graduates find that this preparation provides added flexibility in their careers, enabling them to adapt readily to new task and work environments.
